-ROTARY PR TIPS-

Rotary in the news
Rotary has made a new funding commitment of US$75 million over three years to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Rotary, which has already contributed nearly $1.2 billion to the GPEI, announced the commitment at a 27 September high-level side event on polio eradication, convened by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The side event -- “Our Commitment to the Next Generation: The Legacy of a Polio-free World” -- brought together leaders of the remaining polio-endemic countries and representatives of donor governments, development agencies, the GPEI partners, and the media to underscore the urgent need to finish the job of global polio eradication. This announcement received great media coverage, including pieces in TimeThe Globe and Mail, and The (Nigeria) Guardian.

Help spread the word - World Polio Day materials
For World Polio Day, which is widely recognized on 24 October, Rotary has prepared a press release about the crippling childhood disease and Rotary’s 27-year mission to eradicate it. Your Rotary club is encouraged to share the press release with your local media. You can customize it by adding a local project or fundraiser or including how much money your club or district has contributed to polio eradication.

World's Biggest Commercial coming soon
On World Polio Day, Rotary International will launch the World’s Biggest Commercial, an innovative, interactive campaign that will be posted at endpolionow.org. It gives everyone a chance to join Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bill Gates, Jackie Chan, Amanda Peet, and other world figures and celebrities who are already participating in Rotary’s This Close campaign -- as in, “we’re this close to ending polio” -- to raise awareness of polio and support for its eradication. Make sure to share the World’s Biggest Commercial with your online community this week.

End Polio Now - the album
Rotary will release End Polio Now, an eclectic album of songs performed by its celebrity polio eradication ambassadors from the music industry, including polio survivors Itzhak Perlman, classical violinist; Donovan, folk rock star; and Staff Benda Bilili, a Congolese soukous group. The album will be available via iTunes and atshop.rotary.org.
