WORLD POLIO DAY -24th OCTOBER 2012

My Dear club President's,

October 24th, known as the world UN day is now also declared as the World Polio day. We in Rotary can be proud of this recognition that our Global flagship project is receives the amount of publicity & recognition it deserves to both enhance awareness of Rotary and more importantly enables us mobilize the required funds for the final stages of eradication.

We the Rotarians in Sri Lanka, can be happy that our children are Polio free, and over U$ 5 million was spent by Rotary in Sri Lanka for iPolio eradication. However, we must not be complacent until Polio is totally eradicated, as it could still raise its ugly presence.

Some Rotarian, somewhere very passionately contributed that our children must be safe from Polio, it is now our turn to say Thank you Rotary, keep up the good work and contribute in what ever way we can to ensure that the required funds are secured for the final onslaught.

It is in view of the above that I consider it appropriate in sharing the following thoughts which can help raise funds/ contribute towards the Polio fund
  1. Organize a club fundraiser,
  2. Arrange a screening of The Final Inch at your weekly club meeting. This Academy Award-nominated, 38-minute documentary follows health workers, including Rotarian volunteers, as they immunize children in India. The DVD is available at www.thefinalinch.org.
  3. Create a link from your club’s Web site to the Rotary International YouTube channel, which includes videos and public service announcements on eradicating polio, or embed one of the video on your Web site.
  4. Make an individual donation to Rotary’s US$200 Million Challenge.

Say Thank You to Rotary and good bye Polio.

Best Regarfs
